Unknown charges allowed to build for entire month

For most of an entire month, there was international long distance charges on my bill being accumulated daily. After I went to bed, my daughter was placing these calls while not knowing that it would incur charges.

I talked to the company who was unwilling to help in any way. Their fraud department claimed that it was "legitimate" calls to an "adult chat line." I contacted the party who was called and it was a regular person. I don't know how they determined it was an "adult chat line." I now think that was for them to simply not to have any charges removed.

I asked them why they don't audit accounts and determine that $25.00 in charges for an hour every night that normally doesn't happen wouldn't send up a red flag. They claim that they do not monitor accounts like that. I don't see why not, since a credit card company does.

I asked if international calls could be blocked, which they do not. They then tried to sell a plan that would make the bill even more so I could call internationally. I told them that I didn't want to call internationally in the first place and that I did not give approval to the charges being made. They claim that someone (anyone) using my phone is my approval.

I told them that if they cannot prevent new charges like this from happening, or even warn that placing such a call will incur a charge, like they do with prepaid phones, then I will no longer need their services. They then said that I will incur another $175 for early termination.

All in all, it ended up that they billed me over $570 for calls I did not place and my daughter had no idea would incur extra cost. They seemed unwilling to help as well as uninterested in my business to even care.

I believe that they ripped me off, and I suspect they do it all the time from how it sounds. I should not be charged for something I did not authorize or have knowledge of. I should not be treated like I am nothing to them except another way to get a large sum of money for their doing nothing.
