Invitation and service ripoff

On 5/28/05 I went to Distinctive Travel Design / The Write Touch and spoke to owner Jean Michel Vannier in 5200 West Loop South Suite 101 in the Bridal Mall to view some wedding invitations with my fianc. We picked the invitations but we didn't have the address for the ceremony confirmed so I gave him this information and he told me to give a deposit check (Bank of America #628 $398.39) so he could give a 20% discount on my invitations and that he would wait for me to cash in the check.

I didn't have the full amount in the bank nor ceremony date confirmed so I told him I didn't want to do the invitations until that was confirmed. He cashed the check the next day, which bounced in my account and no information for the invitations was yet given.

I went the next day to ask for a refund since I still didn't have the address. He offered to lent me the money and sign a document to return to him and do service for my invitation and to leave 2 checks 632 & 633 from Bank of America, which he would cash, in two different dates for the $200 each so I did.

We went to his office several time to review invitations and in one visit he offered his travel service since my wedding was in Guatemala. He promised to provide a 30% discount If I gave him my guest information so he coul provide a Travel package quote. He took 2 Weeks and my guest nevere received his quote. He called to threatend me and to force me to tell my guest they had no choice but to purchase his travel deal.

When I told him my guest they already had source somewhere else due to his long time to quote and no email received. I called on 12/6 to advise I was heading to his office and he said he was busy to call him another day, I told him I would be there on 12/7 @ 6pm he said it was fine. On 12/7 on my way to his office I called around 5:40 to advise I would run a few minutes late because of traffic and rainy weather he said it was ok.

As soon as I arrived at his business @ 6:15 his receptionist said he had left about 10 minutes before I arrived. I told receptionist if she had a cell number to call him and she started to look around. I decided to call his business and all the numbers I had I left a voice message for him to call me back that I was waiting in the Bridal Mall to meet him like we had agreed. He never showed up and called me back @ 6:37 to tell me he had to leave. So extremely upset I told him I did not want to do business with him and that I really wanted my money back, and he said NO.

Jean Vannier wanted to charge me for his time and quote which we never agreed to or where informed or signed a contract for his travel quote. Since my invitation deposit was already paid he told me he would not return my $400 and he would take the money as a payment for his service and time to quote a travel package that my guest didnt agree too. All I would like back is the money I paid him.
