Ripoff, gas prepay scam

I was traveling with family members in another vehicle that uses a substantial amount of fuel so each time they stopped I also put in fuel, so I didn't have to add but a few dollars each time. Since my gas gauge does not work I go by miles to tell me when to stop usually.
I prepaid For gasoline and then took my granddaughter to the restroom before pumping gas.

I had trouble starting the pump. It seemed to click and then wouldn't work, I put the nozzle back up and tried again. I had noticed it had been on about $12.00 before I started, I pumped a few dollars and went in for change and was then told that I had pumped 12.26 the "first" time I pumped gas, then $3.33. I called the police out to investigate, but was referred to the manager who did nothing.

I was particularly agitated because I found a debit card at the previous station lying on top of the pump and turned it in, and I realized, even if I paid with my card, I would either end up in a long dispute, or I too would forget my card!
