Sprint adding additional time to your contract

I have had my sprint Pc contract for a year well after moving out of the state that i lived when i signed the contract and only having my number changed they added more time to my contract. I just dont under stand how they can add more time telling me because i changed my number it changed my contract when i wasn't advised of this at the time i made the change. If i had been advised i would not have changed my phone number. I didnt change service but they also added more service to my contract. Please someone tell me how they can do this.
