Sales tax on S&H

Last week I made a small purchase from your company and was surprised to see S&H above the tax line. I suspect that the people I have corresponded with have not received many invoices because S&H ALWAYS appears below the line, yes, even in the people's republic of California. I have twice received a very lame answer stating that because Amazon does not separate shipping from handling you may tax the whole thing. Surprise! S&H are Always lumped together, read some invoices for heavens sake! Handling is a service, not a taxable product! If this is your idea of customer service I suspect I can find somewhere else to buy books. Yes, we are, in this case, discussing a trivial amount of money. Trivial amounts add up. Where is this money going? If you are keeping it, shame on you. If you are sending it to the great money pit which is California, shame on you.
