Readers Digest / Safeco
They may have had my mother convinced, but not me!

On june 29th i recieved a call from my sister stating that i hadwon a contest for $255, o69 dollars. I said to her, "ya right. Its a scam." she stated.."no mom called the number back acting like you and confirmed with readers digest. They sent a check for $4,631.72 for you to deposit into your bank account!" there i went driving to my mothers house trying not to get to excited aboutte news.

When i got there my mother says she confirmed the check information with lady named laci adams and was given a confirmation number so i could go to the bank and deposit the check. When i got to the bank, i told the teller i think i might have won some money and i need tosee if the checkwasamock/fake check. She takes the check from me andcoments "there just getting better and better at making these things" i took it as fake.

She trys calling the number on the letter for readers digest and the laci adams girl to get voice mails for both and states thats 1 sign of a scam. She then looks up the bank"safeco"on the internet to call them. They were a real bank but the teller contacted said the check was a fraudulant check and that they had recieves a few of theses out of canada.

Man. When i had to tell my mother that i had almost been scammed. She wanted tocry. She told me "but andrea, i talked to the lady myself and she confirmed the winnings." i had to let my mother know that the banks spoke and it was a scam. Now if i had an actual open accout at the rime, i probebly would have done a direct deposit and been screwed. But since i had jus closed my sccount 4 months prior and had to speak to someone in regards to that as well... Well im sure we all know how that would have played out!!
