Readers digest
John g KImmons sweepstakes scam

Miscellaneous

Received a letter from Readers Digest (no return address) saying I won $245,000 US dollars) with an actual check for $3210.00. I was told to call 1-778-858-1458 and ask for Lisa Gomez and give my Claim Code for verification. The letter was signed by John G Kimmons (prize award administrator) Finally reaching a man with a? Jamaican accent he said Lisa was not available and after much pushing he told me he was John Kimmons. He said he needed my phone number to make sure it was me who won and he had to look up my file. He toild me to call back in the morning to speak with Lisa (he never called me back) I peristed by calling him and told me I need to fill out some papers and asked if I had a bank account. It all sounded bogus and he swore he was a man of God.in the meantime, I called the bank on the check and they told me they could not release 3rd party info. And to get an authorization number. I called Farmers Iinsurance in Idaho (first branch was was a no go) and the woman told me the check was a scam and she gets calls like mine all the time. Also called Reader's Digest and they told me it was fraudulant when I mentioned John Kimmons. It seems all the reporting does no good as they "shut down" the operation if susupect and creat another very real looking check and letter. If you cash or deposit the check, they clean you out. This letter was sent to my 90 year old mother inlaw who asked me about this as she never entered a contest. Beware
