Payment Applied To Prior Month With No Service

I paid my February bill and reconnection charge. I discovered when I got home that you put the money to my January bill which was no service at all. I went to your store in Albuquerque and they were incredibly rude and said they would not do anything. I'm out $80 for absolutely no service. I do not have a contract with you, and was told my account is "pay in advance". Do you understand what advance means???
