Suspending service before the end of a month

My wireless service was suspended about Dec 21. My problem is the balance due was only for the month or December. I had the service restored on Dec. 23rd (I paid the past due balance of $119 that was due for Decemeber plus a $5 processing fee and a $35 reconnection fee) and asked the customer rep. How my service could be suspended for a past due balance for December when December had not ended. I was told customers are given only two weeks past their bill due date to pay; otherwise the service is suspended. I feel this is a totally unfair practice designed to make additional money from the public. I receive a small retirement check that covers my rent and often have to wait until my once a month part-time check is direct deposited to pay my bills. Compnaies should not be allowed to continue this practice and placing and unduer burden on the public.
