I am being charged for a bill i do not owe

I bought a air cord in 2008 carried it home a few hours later i tried it out it did not work carried it back recieved a full refung, verizon sent me a bill for service anyway i talked to don burnrtt he made copies sent them to verizon they continued to bill me anyway verizon sent the bill to collections all three i. I dispuited the chargrs the credit companies took the charge off. Verizon had the charge put back on i duspuited it again it was taken off a this has been going on from 2008 to present i do not know what to do, is looks like large companies can charge their customers a bill and all we can do is pay it or it will be sent to collection damaging our credit that we have worked so hard for.
