Mcdonalds mistreating employe

I was a manager at mcdonalds until today i worked there for 6 years, my fiances aunt had passed away i went in for my shift and asked i could laeve 2 hours early and i was told by my store manager that he was told by the store owner that they couldnt accomidate me for the funeral meaning i wasnt allowed to take off to attend the funeral because i wasnt married to my fiance and his aunt wasnt my immediate family so i asked i can not even take off for a friends funeral either and the store manager told me no i said well if i went anyway i would be suspended he said yes because i wouldnt be there to work my shift. What kind of employer could be that cruel? Can they really suspend me for not going to work and attending the funeral and how can they allow another manager to leave early to attend a friends funeral a couple months prior.
