Miscellaneous

A young man came to our door, identified himself as working to gain a college education by selling subscriptions to magazines offered through Millenium Sales. He added that his "points" were accumulating, but that he would be deeply grateful for any subscription purchase. He added that if I paid for the magazine or book in cash, his points would double for this sale. When I commented on the subscription price of the listed magazines, he responded that I should not worry; one-third of that cost would be discounted and a check for that amount would arrive within three weeks. Sadly, I gave the young man the $44.00 amount in cash for two years of Road and Track. After he left, I looked at the receipt. He had noted the figures such that only $18.00 was "Amount Paid" while $26.00 was the "Mail-In Balance." When I went to the Millenium Sales web site to issue a complaint, I learned that the only way to contact these scammers was either by mail to a PO Box or by FAX. I wrote a complaint and sent it to the PO Box in W. Berlin, NJ, but have not heard anything. I have since learned that this company has a long history of such practices. I regret that I was naive enough to take this young man's story as the truth.
