Miscellaneous

I got the same letter someone else got about winning 250,000 in the Readers Digest sweepstakes. They included a check (which looks very real) for $3940. They gave the name of Rose Bera at 1-647-739-5590 and
Frank Harris at 1-416-666-1757. We were to call and they said to deposit the check the following day and call again. I actually deposited the check and called back. They asked if a hold was placed on the check (probably knowing that a check smaller than what you can cover in your account or $5000 does not have a hold). Then they tell you to withdrawn $2100 to cover the taxes and fees etc. And wire it to their headquarter in Paris. I looked this scam up because we wouldn't be paying US taxes to Paris France. I found this same complaint. So the deal is they get your $2100 cash before you know the 3940 check bounced. Very cleaver, but so too bad in these times where money is tight!
