Another victim of this outrageous scheme. I was staying in a hotel (the Benson) in Portland, OR when my cell phone died. The front desk recommended the pay phones next to the elevators. The text on the phone said 4 minutes for a dollar... If I paid in cash. I had no change so I used my card. Dialed 0, entered my debit card number, and got connected to my wife's cell phone (she was a block away). All automatic—no human operator involved. We spoke less than 3 minutes, probably less than one minute. Two days later I see the charge on my bank account of $26.41. At no point was I informed what the rate would be. I called WiMacTel today to complain, and they told me the rate was $26.41 for up to the first 3 minutes.in what universe is this a reasonable charge??? They condescendingly offered me a 35% refund. I called the hotel to complain—hopefully they will remove those pay phones ASAP. I'll call my bank tomorrow to see if they can block the charge.
