I am a diabled 60 year old man living on a fixed SSI income of 765 a month. Over a yerar ago arrangement were made -along with the psc-to put me on a level payment plan of 108 dollars a month. If I used less power, I would get credited, if more then at the end of 12 months whatever the total owed would be, wwould be spread out over the next 12 months and everything would continue as it had. This Aug. 1st i paid my bill as usual, but the following week I got a notice that I owed Con ed 347 more. When I asked why they told me that based on the usage for July and Aug {the hottest two months in the history of the cityby the way} they rethought my bill. Apparently, they said, I should have been charged back to April at the usuage rate I had in July and Aug and thats is why I had to pay 347 more for electricty. They also told me that based on that new rate of use, instead of 108 dollars on month, the level plan would now be 177 a month, plus 40 to repay the new differenxce the came up with. I have had 1 jeart attack, 2 hearth surgerys, I have enphysema, advanced arth, gouat, a fractured lower back, siatic nerve damage, and a host of other problems. I have to stay indoors most of the time due to heat or the air quality. The meds i am on prevent me from doing much. For a strange reason I can only get 765 from SSI. Thats my entire income every mlnth. After paying the rent, and meds. I have barely 175 a month left.! 50 goes to CON ED—That s the best I am sble to do. When I inquired of MRS. Dent at con ed which should I give up, my food or my medice she calmly told me "Thats your choice, as long as you pay the bill". What a horrible way to trea a diabled 60 year old man.
Is there any help for me? Can Some pone please help? I was ok paying the 150 every month, but there no way I acan pay any more, Unless this is the waydisabled peple are to be treted from now on. They just up and change the deal because it got hot in the summer and I get to die for it Please help me.
