I rented a home at 18 Greendell Place, Pleasant Hill from these people from October through July. When I gave notice to move out, they said I was a good tenant and tried to encourage me to stay in the property.

I moved out because they refused to make anything except for minor repairs to the property. The air conditioning was not working for the last 13 months.in our last two months, when I insisted on the air conditioning being fixed (it was 90-104 degrees on many days), because my mother and wife were very over-heated. My mother was recovering from surgery was staying with us for a couple weeks. My wife was full term pregnant.

The broker, Tim Steffen called me and left a voice message, claiming that my mother and wife should not be in the home, as my mother was not on the lease, and that he had told me previously that the owner did not want to make these types of repairs because he was "upside down in the home." Mr. Steffen also told me that I could have "moved out" of the house if I didn't like how they maintained the property (I am summarizing the lengthy voicemail, which I can provide a copy of).

I advised Mr. Steffen that he was violating housing laws by claiming that my mother could not visit with us, and that my wife could not live in the home. He had met my wife on a couple of occasions, and knew that she was in the home.

There were other issues with the home, but essentially, the owners took forever to fix anything major, including a deck that was falling apar when we moved in, with promises that it would be repaired (it took almost 1 year to fix).

Mr. Steffen showed the home to prospective tenants, when I was still residing in the home. I advised these people of my concerns, and Mr. Steffen became belligerent inside the home with my mother and 8 year old daughter inside.

I am a real estate attorney, and I have not seen any landlord behave like this previously. The Steffens are licensed real estate professionals, and should know better.
