We fell behind on our bills. I spoke with a LIPA rep on the phone. I saw they had called on Monday but left no message. I knew why they called so I called them on Tuesday. I spoke with a woman that suggested I come in and make a partial payment and an agreement for the balance. I said I would be able to come in of Friday to do so and she said she would note the records. On Wednesday I came home to find both my electric and gas had been turned off. I took off Thursday to make the payment. The woman at the window in Melville was totally rude. She just kept talking over me even though my only question was how much... I came with the cash. She made sure she talked loud and long so everybody in the waiting room could hear my name, my address and how much I owed. The situation is bad enough... Her pleasure in embarassing me was obvious. Here I am 12 hours after paying them. It is 11:00 PM. They do not have a turn on crew like they have a turn off crew. So you are just put on an open list that emergency crews handle whenever they can get the time. It can be at 3 am or 5am or whenever. If you call they are nasty. Then at 8PM customer sevice closes. The only way to get in touch with a human is to act as if you have an outage... And they don't like that so they just treat you nastier then regular customer service does. He actually acted as if he was going to help me by finding out where the emergency crew was and when they would come. After 5 minutes he got back on the phone and told me he can't help me and I would just have to wait. The attitude I felt from all I dealt with was I was lesser because I was struggling financially. I have watched 6 guys stand around while one guy climbed a pole... Really... AND MORE THAN ONCE! And they wonder why they are backed up on the work and we wonder why we have the highest utility bills in the country. To those of you abusing the system and doing in an hour what can be done in 15 minutes... Stop screwing us your neighbors, family and friends. Please!!!
