Charge Card 5% Discount Not Explained at Self Checkout

When I was asked to sign up for the Home Depot charge card and obtain a 5% discount, it was never brought to my attention that you must request this match of Lowes to receive the same. I went through self-service, and with no clerk there, they skirted the discount factor. There should be a means of alerting you to this issue.
