I contracted with Direct TV for services, after being told by their represenative that I would never lose service no matter what the weather. Also, I was told that my bill would be x amount for one year, and the second year, my payment would go up to x amount. My son signed on with Direct TV at the same time, and he had programs freeze up on him from the start. The technicians came to his house several times and attempted to fix the problem, but to no avail. The last time they came, they stated they could not do anything else to fix the problem. When he called and left messages for the someone to call him back, no one did. The sales rep gave us his direct phone number and we were told to call if we had problems. Alas, he had failed to return calls.
Every person that works for Direct TV has given a different response to questions. One of their service reps stated that if signal was lost for six minutes, that the contract could be cancelled without a cancellation fee. Two of their customer services people have told my son that there is a 30 day grace period in which to cancel. When I called, the customer service rep told me there was a 24 hour grace period in which to cancel. I told her what my son was told, and she immediately stated that the grace period was 15 days.
It seems that no one can give you a straight answer, and the answer changes depending on whom you are talking with. It seems that they want to hold you to a contract, but they do not feel they should have to abide by verbal contracts with you.
This feels like enticement to get you to sign with them, and once you have been lured into their clutches may God have mercy on you. This is entrapment.
