I found an apartment in Manhattan, New York on the website of www.vacationrentalpeople.com, listing no. #50848, which I intended to rent for my family vacation. On the 7th of April I sent an inquiry on this website for renting out this property from the 15th - 21st of June. On the 8th of April I received a reply back from one Mr. Patrick Wayne saying that the property is available on my required dates.in order to book this apartment, he said that for international clients he required a money transfer. On 13th April Patrick Wayne sent me a stamped and signed (by Julie Teng) detailed agreement and asked me to wire the amount of US$2942 against rental damage deposit to ACADEMY BANK, BANK ADDY 360 W 31st St # 1010, New York, NY 10001. Rt. No. 101019482, acct no. 5909046151, ACCT NAME: JULIE TENG.
On the 17th of May to my complete shock and surprise I received this email from Patrick Wayne saying that he had a little problem with the refundable damage deposit, and that the management has insisted that the total amount against refundable damage deposit to receive from international rentals should be $5,000, not $500 and that he would send a reverse agreement for the $5,000 refundable damage deposit. This is when I realized that this is a scam. After several unpleasant emails exchanged, he agreed to cancel the agreement and wire the amount back to me, but till date neither have I received my money back and nor is this Patrick Wayne traceable anymore. His earlier numbers (19402385769,16097368151) for obvious reasons are not working anymore. On a new recent number I found of his (19406044049) somebody does answer the phone, but hangs up immediately.
