Cracked sole and zero traction

After a few months of light wear, my grey canvas Sperry Topsiders have become unwearable. It seems the soles are either now very poorly made or I received a defective pair. I have a leather pair that has lasted me years but this pair now has soles so slick that I wiped out on a city street a few days ago and badly scrapped and bruised my elbow. The one sole is also cracked all the way through the white rubber base at the ball of the foot and looks like it will fall apart soon. I can't imagine how these would have fared had I used them in a rougher environment like a wet slippery boat deck instead of casually wearing them only to the office. Please offer any advice on replacement or repair.
