Phone calls asking for sensitive information - unknown

I do not know why CBE is contacting me since I have no bills that are overdue. The female caller asked me to verify the last four digits of my social security number without telling me what it was in regards to. Giving out that type of information is exceptionally dangerous. Why does this company expect people to put themselves at risk like that?
