Scam - do not give out last 4 of your social security number!

I received a letter from the Northland Group claiming I owed on an account through GE Money Bank that had a current owner of Galaxy Portfolios, LLC. They claimed that I owed $364.08 and would settle for $127.44.

Not huge amounts but enough to make me nervous since my Bankruptcy was discharged 2 1/2 years ago and I have no outstanding debt. When I called they asked for the F number on the statement and then for me to verify the address it was mailed to. Since they already had that information I fel comfortable giving that out.

Then they asked for my last four of my social. I told them under no circumstances would I give that out over the phone. The woman tried to tell me that my identity couldn't be tampered with by just my last 4 numbers, to which I disagreed and refused to give the numbers out. She also slaughtered my name (also spelled incorractly on the letter).

After enough time on the phone of adamantly refusing to give out my social she asked for my date of birth. That seemed odd also. Eventually she repeated the last 4 of the social she had on file and while the four numbers were the same, they were in a very different order.

I think what they are trying to do here is to attempt to get your last four of the social security, your correct date of birth and verify all other information so they can make their claims more legit. Do not give them any information!!!
