My previous work with the NHS was being sold off to private enterprise, I was desperate to retain or gain employment
I was interested in a course advert. And asked a salesman came to the flat. He and talked for about2 hours. I finally agreed because I was tired out and wanted rid of him. I signed up for a course on plumbing. But it turned out to be unfit for purpose because there is only two weeks practical work. They claimed many things like being a qualified experienced plumber in 7 1/2 months. These things are condemned by City and Guilds and the local university and experienced plumbers.
The bank rejected my standing order because it was not singed properly.
The company said eventually that the course didn't matter they were only interested in the loan that I had singed up to for the course that I had not started as I told the company that it was not fit for purpose and that until the company could prove that the course was fit to make a qualified plumber in the time that no money would be paid.
After 2 1/2 months the college, which is in the same building block as the credit finance company (Careers Development Finance) send a text asking me to contact them on an 0845 number. I did not. The police have agreed it is a scam, so have trading standards and CAB. I now have a letter from a Debt collection service offering substantial discounts if I repay the entire cost (£3,850) of the course in 7 days if I don't I can expect visits from there street collectors and this will incur extra costs on top. There is a relationship between CDF and a number of course selling companies through the directors.
I need advice and maybe representation if I am taken to court. Can get some advice to help and can I get an estimate of the cost of this. I am 68, arthritic and diabetic with just a pension so funds are limited.
