Defective part on Tacoma pickup

Miscellaneous

The tailgate latches on Toyota pickup trucks are poorly designed. When you drop the tailgate ;sand or pea gravel can drop into the latch opening. The latch will then freeze. This can be in the up or down position. Your tailgate is the useless. I purchased my truck new at Capitol Toyota. They are very aware of this defect but made no mention of it when I bought the truck. The vehicle is out of warranty but has only 15800 miles on it. They gave me a number to call. We'll see. If I get no redress I will take them to court. Be wary of these trucks. They have weak brakes and are underpowered. They are overrated in my opinion.
