Nebraska Furniture Mart
Ripoff Deceptive, illegal practices at NFM. Humanitarianism and common human decency are concepts foreign to their management and human resources

Miscellaneous

I wish to make it known to anybody contemplating a purchase from Nebraska Furniture Mart of a few questionable management practices at "The Mart".

Although I have fielded MANY complaints from customers regarding deceptive sales tactics, problems with deliveries and defective products, my report is not specifically aimed at "rip offs".

Rather, I want to make the public aware of questionable practices by members of management at Nebraska Furniture Mart.

"The Mart" prides itself on a long history of never having to cut staff through lay offs.

This is simply a play on words.

My experience is that, so long as an employee reports to work as scheduled and produces positive numbers, they will be rewarded. (although, the reward is a very small percentage in commission compensation, when compared to the overall market.)

Of course, this is standard practice of any employer and it sounds innocent enough, until you dig a little deeper.

Beyond this point, I warn anybody considering employment at "The Mart", DO NOT BECOME ILL.

An extended illness is frowned upon by NFM Management.in my case, I was hospitalized in December for pneumonia. I was unable to work for 13 days. Upon returning to work, my manager called me into her office and advised me that had I missed 1 more day, I would have been placed on "probationary status", essentially being terminated and placed "on call", and I would have lost my medical benefits.

I was an excellent employee up until this point. I always ranked in the top percentages as far as my sales numbers and productivity.

Suddenly, though, I was targeted by management. Apparently I became a liability due to my illness, and my immediate managers were instructed to take care of the situation. I endured months of harrassment by management, and ultimately they won out. I was terminated without just cause. Coventry health surely breathed a sigh of relief, as did NFM Human Resources.

Mine is not an isolated case. I know of several people in similar circumstances who have either been terminated by NFM following a diagnosed illness, or are in fear of losing their jobs.

I urge anybody who may be considering a purchase from Nebraska Furniture Mart to stop and reconsider. Somebody needs to do an investigation of NFM employment practices and a major house cleaning needs to take place.

I'm sure this comes as no suprise, but at NFM, the botom line is the ONLY concern. Customer satisfaction takes a back seat at "The Mart". Humanitarianism and common human decency are concepts foreign to Nebraska Furniture Mart management and human resources.
