The following is the email I wrote to Ross Stores customer service:

I have a Ross gift card in my possession with a $469.18 balance, which was used in five transactions and drained at three of your Ross Store locations in Stockton and Sacramento over a two day period, while I was at home and the gift card was still in my wallet. The gift card was never stolen. I have reported this to my local police jurisdiction, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office, for investigation and follow-up.

I am aware that Wal-Mart was hit by a scam involving "clone" gift cards with employee involvement, which may also be the case in my situation.

I would like a representative from Ross Stores to contact me regarding this issue. I have already discussed the matter with a Ross customer service representative, who stated she could only talk to me regarding the gift card's activity. The representative reiterated several times that Ross was not responsible for lost or stolen gift cards, although I informed her that the card was never stolen in the first place, and was physically in my wallet on the dates that it was used and zeroed out.
