Miscellaneous

I am not a victim, but it isn't too difficult to see how it could happen. I'd seen email scams... But this was the first on the phone. My description follows:
A cold call from thomas white, who's voice sounded very much like a computer, from cell phone # (Personal Info Removed). Told me I won 1st place prize of 500K and all I had to do was go to a western union and purchase a 299$ insurance receipt. This money would be reimbursed immediately as soon as I called him back - from the western union office - and they verified all the 'lock' codes. The information he gave me to give to western union was sender: me and reciever: tamara davis, lexington, KY 40509.

Of course I had to do this all very quickly, because they had 2 more deliveries to make. He was 'in the van' with an FBI agent and the CEO of the company, a Mrs Kimberly, which was pretty stupid, because when I asked to speak to Kimberly he said 'sure'.. And then I spoke briefly to this 'woman' who sounded exactly like Mr thomas. I told him as much. That pretty much did it, at that point i just wanted to nail him to the wall so he would not do this to others. So in addition to this I told him i needed to make one more phone call to verify this wonderful offer and he told me I didn't really need to do that. He said it was all very simple really, and if I wanted to be a winner I should just go to the western union and pay the money. Then I asked him if he wouldn't mind loaning me the money, which he said he would LOVE to do, but simply couldn't.

Suffice it to say a scam was avoided. I called Diana at the OC Sheriff to report and see if they would be interested in the information, and was told they have too many other 'real' victims to deal with, so I'm doing what I can to report and hopefully warn others, but I'd really like to catch this guy.

Not 20 minutes later my husband received another call. From a person who happened to have a first and last name combination that included my maiden surname and deceased dog's name.
The area code was apparently from Jamaica (hubby just happened to know that) and when he inquired about what the weather was like in Jamaica the caller said what? And question was repeated and then they hung up.
