Shop Owner Insulted People With Disabilities

I have had issues with the attitude of people at this organization in the past but had decided to give them a second chance. The result was worse this time. We hired them to move a hot tub and base (which they had originally installed) one block. We were quoted $425 which we felt was high but agreed to the price. When they showed up, they were supposed to contact my husband to meet them at the old location. They did not. They simply went to the house (where other people are living now), insulted them by telling them that their grandfather's car was a "piece of s*" and left with the hot tub. They then showed up at our new home with just the hot tub. When my husband and I went out to discuss this with them, Jeremy (who stated he was the owner), became very defensive and hostile and started calling me "stupid" and "ignorant." When I stated that I would not discuss this with him any more and turned to leave, he yelled at me - "YOU'RE RETARDED!"

I have worked in leadership roles with people with disabilities for over 20 years. The "R" word is considered to be highly offensive to anyone with any concern for people with disabilities. It is unexcusable in any circumstance, let alone a professional one. Clearly his intent was to insult me. The fact that he chose this word to do so suggests a complete distain for anyone with a disability. If someone wants to insult me, that is their choice (and I'm sure that he will in his "response" to this complaint) but to insult an entire population of people is simply not acceptable.

I will be boycotting this company, and I am certain that once the disability associations hear of this, they will as well. People with disabiltiies deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. Please let the Spa Shop know that this is not ok.
