Deceptive marketing practices to join BBB, Viginia DC

I was contacted by the BBB via phone, got message stating that this is a call from the BBB and that I need to contact them regarding case number (some number given). As a business owner I assumed that somebody file a complaint on my business on the BBB and I inmediately called the number given to me.

The BBB representative told me that this was a not a complaint call (I was not a member at the time) and that the reaosn for the call was due tu the high volume of call that my comapny had requests with the BBB (I believe over 80 requests over the past months) the BBB person told that this was a very good number for my company and that I should become a member to take advantage of it and they will be able to say that I was a member and thus recomend me and be listed as a member when somebody inquired about my company.

I decided to join the BBB and paid the fees etc etc.

Its been more than 3 months that I had not even get one customer since I become a member of the BBB.in other words since becoming a member of the BBB not even 1 customer has aproach the company via BBB channels.

I can assume and in my opinion that the BBB just make out this "great requests numbers of calls" to get business to sign up and become a member of the BBB. I believe if this imformation submited to me by BBB is accurate at least I will have some new customers doing business with my company because they called the BBB and I was in fact a member.

The BBB is performing unethical marketing practices in my opinion given business owners false imformation and expectations just to collect fees and become a member.
