Miscellaneous

I purchased a Trane XL14 SEER, 2 ton heat pump from an authorized Trane dealer on 10-29-07. On 4-25-11, after 2 summers, the air conditioner no longer cooled. The parts on this unit have a 10 yr warranty. On, 4-26-11, I contacted a Trane certified technician to come and diagnose the problem. I was informed that beneath the panel, the copper distributor lines were touching and due to the normal vibration of the system caused the lines to rub together, and form a hole. I had 3 choices, try to survive without a/c, have Trane replace the coil because the distributor lines are built onto the coil and pay over $900 in labor, or have the copper line soldered at $655. I chose the last option and contacted Ingersol Rand, US headquarters in Davidson, NC. I asked to speak to someone and was given the wrong number in case we were disconnected during the transfer. Of course, I was disconnected and got online to get contact info. I submitted a complaint online to www.trane.com on 4-27-11. The unsigned email that I received today, 4-29-11, tried to accuse either the installer, the technician, or me for the problem. I then called for the supervisor of the consumer div in Tyler, TX, Nicole Fields. I was informed she was at lunch and I could leave a message. I am trying to be reasonable. I am not asking for another defective but new coil, or a new unit. I do not and will not pay for an extended warranty they keep trying to push. They have received enough of our hard earned dollars. If the installer had taken my unit apart to see if it was manufactured properly, I would have had a cardiac infarction! I almost had one when I was told the cost of the repair! I was proud to get my Trane but now I feel like a fool. It's no wonder they are not a Better Business Bureau company. They have no intention of supplying satisfactory customer service or to stand behind their product!
