DLP Grand WEGA 60" Rear Projection TV

We bought one of these and paid over $5000 from BEst Buy about 6 years ago. 6 months after the extended warranty was up, the blue light box started going out! It costs the equivalent of a new TV to replace. How is it that Sony is only making TVs that work 5 years? When I went to replace it at Best Buy this month, they said this was a pretty typical and well known problem with these Sony's. Why and why won't Sony deal with it?
