Waste Management garbage mafia?

We signed up with Waste Management quite a few years ago. They came in and undercut all local businesses. Recently we became tired of the company raising their fees and started checking around with other companies. We called them to say we wanted to stop their services and they said we had a 3 year agreement to end in 2011. We had signed an agreement but did not read the fine print. To stop their services you have to give them written notice 90 days before but not more than 180 days before the end of the contract. This is all in very fine print. If you do not do this it automatically rolls over for another 3 years. A 3 year contract with a garbage company seems excessive also the fact if you do not give the written notice you are in for another 36 months is outrageous.
