Defective Store Brand Product - Dollar General AA Batteries

Purchased Dollar Gen store brand AA batteries from their store in Meridianville, AL in April. Put (4) in my Smartway Talking Thermostat and one of the batteries exploxed. Afterward, my thermostat light would and wouldn't come on, the time/date/temp would fade in and out.

I returned the batteries to the store for a refund, called Customer service and their Private label number. Eventually someone did call me back and promised that they would pay for a replacement thermostat and the cost of installation. Since then my thermostat has quit working and it is summer and I don't have any air condition. I have called and called both numbers, each one refers me to the other and no one has been in cotact with me.
