Movex
Unmoved by Movex

Miscellaneous

In April I contacted Movex Inc., and received a quote for space on a truck for moving household furnishings from Michigan to Florida. Several weeks later, I re-contacted them and said I wanted to confirm my quote and give them a deposit for a date-certain move. I was told the initial quote has expired and received a new quote that was about 20% higher than the first one. I was told costs have gone up though the price of fuel was unchanged from the time of the first quote. I agreed to have them perform the service and gave them a deposit.
I was informed the Movex driver would contact me the day before he is supposed to be at my home to tell me when he will arrive. At 4:00pm on Thursday May 20, the day prior to the planned move, I had not received a call from my driver, so I phoned Movex and asked them when their driver will be at my residence. I was told there was a mechanical problem, but theyre working on it. Movex said they would call me by 9:30am the next morning. I had not received a call by 9:30am, so I called Movex at 10:00am. I was told they still do not have a truck, but its their number one priority. I left a message for Stuart Suddath, the company president and asked for a return call. Later that morning I spoke with Movex supervisor (Molly Voth) and was told they do not have a truck available and didnt know when one would be. This was at 11:00am on the day of the planned move. Movex suggested I rent a truck to load my household furnishings into and at some unknown and undetermined future date they would have one of their trucks meet me and then transfer the items from the rented truck to the Movex truck. I requested to speak with Stuart Suddath, the company president and was put through to his voice-mail.
Because I needed to vacate my residence on that day, I rented a truck through a truck rental agency and did the move myself. On the following Monday (May 24th), I received a telephone call from Movex employee Scott. He stated they still havent found a truck for me and asked if I still needed one. Scotts statement confirmed what I already suspected, Movex couldnt locate a truck for me, but they didnt want to admit it. Movex had over three weeks to find me a truck and couldnt do it. If they couldnt find a truck for my move, why didnt they call me a couple of days prior to the move date and tell me, so I could make other plans???
I phoned Movex several days later and asked to speak with Stuart Suddath, the president. I was told he was busy, so I left my name and phone number and asked for a return call. This was my third phone call to Stuart Suddath. I never received a return phone call him. It appears he doesnt want to concern himself with small details, such as customers.
I later sent a letter along with receipts to Movex and asked them to honor their written promise to pay 10% of the moving cost if their driver is late for pick up or delivery. Movex did not respond to my letter. I then filed a complaint with the Florida Better Business Bureau and asked that Movex honor their promise of 10% reimbursement of moving expenses if their driver is late. Movex denied the claim stating their only responsibility to the customer is to refund the initial deposit. I did not accept their answer and made a rebuttal statement through the BBB. Movex then responded that their 10% reimbursement policy is only for customers and I was not a customer because the contract was cancelled. I responded that all expenses were incurred prior to the contract being cancelled. My dispute with Movex is not resolved as they have not reimbursed me for 10% of my moving expenses
Before you deal with this company, think it through or you could end up like I did; find out the moving truck is not going to arrive on moving day and no date certain when one might!!! In the future, I wont consider using Movex. I will contract with a trucking company directly such as ABF, or rent a moving truck from one of the national truck rental companies. Movex reports they satisfy 98% of their customers. I dont know if thats true or not. What I do know is the company president; Stuart Suddath did not return my telephone calls. To me, that speaks volumes about this company.
