Taken advantage of

The above mentioned company took a deposit of $700.00 for a cabinet we ordered on 2/17/10. We were told it would take about 5 weeks to come in. Knowing special order items take longer we waited about 8 weeks then began stopping in & calling store. If we left a message on a machine or with an employee it was never returned. If an owner was there they were always with someone or unavailable to come to the phone. When we stopped by store we were always told it would be in next week or on the next truck. This went on for months. The week of 6/20 I called & was told by the secretary who is also the daughter that they were having some financial problems but they were being taking care of & the cabinet would be in the following week. When we did not hear back from the store my husband went to store & was told by Bill Sr. That they would issue a check but his duaghter wasn"t there so they could not issue a refund check & to come in on the following tuesday & we would be issued our refund. When he went to the store on 7/6/10 there was a sign posted they were out of business. It has been 5 months & I have a large gapping opening over my stove where the cabinet was to go plus were out $700.00 fom the deposit. I called the manufacture & was told ther was no record of the cabinet being ordered. Do you have any suggestions of what I can do next or offer suggestions of how to handle this from this point. I also contacted the management company for the shopping center & they were unaware of store closing even though they had met with them the prior week till another merchant from the center called them that morning because customers were stopping in to inquire if they knew what happened to the store, so apparently we wern't the only ones lied to.
