Construction & Repair

I went into the store on 2-7-04 to purchase a china cabinet, the salesman (who also told me he was the manager the week before when I went in) told me that the last one (the floor model) was just sold yesterday and they have been dropped, but he knew there was another one at the Midlothian location. He told me that today they were not charging any sales tax either. He called over there and told me they still had it but it had a small "nick" on the bottom corner of the glass. I told him I would go over to see it, he said I had to pay for it at his store because he could give me a better price than the other store.

He said if I went there I wouldn't get as much off as he could give me and if I couldnt live with the small "nick" to call him back and he would cancel the order.

The original price was $1149 and he said he would take it to $950 but if I go to the Midlothian store they would only take $100 off for it being a floor model and damaged.

I went to purchase the cabinet and the lady added sales tax, she called him back there and said since he took $200 (actually $199) off that the free tax did not apply.

I made the purchase and went to the Midlothian store and the cabinet had more than just a little "nick", the glass was broken in 2 places, the little things on the inside of the glass to hold it in the door were broken off and laying inside the cabinet and the little scratch on there was not so little.

I told the salesperson at the Midlothian store to take the "sold" sign off because I would not pay $992 for something so badly damaged. He said it would be up to the buyer to fix it if we wanted it fixed. The glass in the cabinet was a special beveled glass with a gold metal decoration welded on it. It would have been very difficult and expensive to fix this glass.

A lady there asked me what did the Jeff Davis salesperson take off and when I told her she said that he had taken 20% off what else do I want?

I called the store manager at Jeff Davis and told him that I did not want the cabinet because it has too much damage for the price, I told him the glass was broken in 2 places, he didnt at all sound surpised so either the person at Midlothian didnt tell him that or he didnt tell me. Either way I was lied to.

My question is if a store quotes a price why isnt it the price at all stores. If he was on the phone with the Midlothian store and quoted me $950 how and why would it be different when I get back across town?

This is extremely questionable. Now as of today I have not been charged but it is only Monday but the available credit on my card has been reduced by nearly 1000 because of this.
