Sheriff Sale Filed While Working on Modification Since Injury

We have worked with Chase Finance since I was injured and put off for surgery with owcp. It took 4 months before I got a check so we got behind. They have called every few days or we call them they don't know what's going on from one call to another. We have sent (faxed & fed ex) numerous times all the paperwork they have asked for. They have now filed for sheriff sale on 6/11. But yet the day after 6/12 they called and wanted to update our records nothing has changed for us. Not even a penny. Are they keeping us on the hook so they can foreclosure or should we file a chapter 13? Don't know, we never had bad credit and could get anything we wanted anytime now we are devastated. What to do?
