Epic Sound 5.1 Speaker Surround
Scam on cheap speakers

Miscellaneous

I thought that I'd be smart enough to avoid the scam, but apparently money was burning a hole in my pocket. It's a common story: guy in SUV says he got an extra one for his installation and flashes the list price of $1,399.99. I've read that others have been scammed for anywhere from $150 to $600.

He tried haggling pretty hard and I blurted out $100 and tried to walk away every time he asked for more. Finally, he agreed and I paid the man: My mistake and regret.

While the speakers DO WORK (luckily), their sound quality is pretty poor. I opened one speaker up and saw that the tweeter has some sort of resistor attached to it, and the solder joints are OK (soldered a little cold)... So it's not complete junk & the sound is pretty thin and tinny.

I intended on gifting them to someone, as I already have a sweet 5.1 system (otherwise, I would have ran as fast as I could). Did I get scammed, probably. Do I feel stupid: yes. I'm very surprised they took the $100 offer, so they must be getting these things for dirt cheap. It could have been much worse (like getting a box of sand).
