Wal-Mart
Paid double sales tax

Miscellaneous

I purchased a microwave oven about a month ago. A week later, there was a loud humming noise. A week after that, the glass dish cracked in half during a 3 minute cook. I paid by credit card. I asked the manager if I could return it for an even exchange and couldn't find my sales receipt. She assured me it would be no problem and I didn't need the receipt for an even exchange — they had the credit card purchase info.in the computer. When I returned it, I was told I had to pay another sales tax of $6.81 because I didn't have the receipt. I said I wasn't making another purchase, just returning a defective item. They told me it didn't matter and it was the law. I can't see why I had to pay a sales tax twice for only one purchase. I am a retired senior citizen on a fixed income and every penny counts. I feel I was ripped off and need your help. Please let me know if this is a new tax law. If it is, then it's very unfair given the circumstances I described. Thank you.
