The Official "Bogus" Yellow Pages

My husband got a call from someone named, Steve, stated he was from The Official Yellow Pages. He said our business was more than six months late on our advertising payment. My husband said he was confused and said he would call his accountant, which is me. I told him we did not advertise with The Official Yellow Pages.

The company then called me and said they had a verbal contract from the business owner and by law that was legal and binding in the state of Indiana. I told him I had no clue how a verbal contract would be legal? He said he would lower the payment to $499.00 if we paid right now but he could only hold the account one more day at that amount. I told him that we would not pay it. He stated he would send the bill to collections. The business owner called the company as they kept harrassing him. He asked the company to send him the book and they said they don't do that. The business owner said he would not pay until he saw the ad. The Yellow Pages person (who by the way barely spoke understandable english) said he would send a book as soon as payment was received. The business owner paid the bill and a book has still not been received.
I wanted to find a phone number again to contact them for the book so I looked up the page online and found all these complaints about the same type of deal. This is horrible, this company is tricking people into thinking they are the local yellow pages.

We are thinking about going to our bank and telling them we did not authorize this charge and try to get the money recovered. The business owner, that I work for, has not been doing that well (due to the state of economy) and really could not afford the $500.00.
