The Dorcheser Towers
Taking Advantage of Senior Citizens

Dorchesters residents appear to be in large part Senior citizens.in large part my Mother In Law, enjoyed living there as I'm sure most of the residents do. However, I'm willing to bet that most of the residents are completely unaware that Dorchester slips clauses into their leases that make dying financially punitive. That's right. If someone dies while they are leasing an apartment from Dorchester Apartments (near South Hills Village), Dorchester considers that a broken lease. Not only do you lose your security deposit, but you also owe a month and a half rent for breaking the lease, plus another Months rent for Not giving 90 days notice! We are told by our attorney that since its in the least they have every right to demand payment. However I really don't see how any self respecting business can take advantage of seniors in this way. I have have had a far easier time breaking a lease for moving to another city or purchasing a home. The reason I believe Dorchester has this policy is because most of their clients are old, do not read their leases closely, which leaves their loved ones with no recourse! I think this practice needs to be exposed as I suspect there are other apartment complexes in the area who cater to older residents that take advantage of seniors in this way.
