Magazine contest scam

Miscellaneous

2 young ladies (I would say 18-20) came to our door in our SECURED apartment building. They said they were in a contest selling magazines to win a trip to Australia. They were not professional looking at all. They were in tattered jeans, sweatshirts, multiple piercings, etc... But they were very polite and friendly, and looking back on it, maybe a little too friendly. I told them I would subscribe to Nickelodeon magazine at $50 for 24 issues. After you've agreed, THEN they tell you there's a $15 processing and handling fee. So $65 for 24 issues of Nickelodeon, good deal or not?

They came back a 2nd time stating that they wrote something down incorrectly on my check and needed me to write a new one. I obtained my original check, gave them a new one, and we also exchanged receipts. The more experienced sales girl so conveniently wrote over some of the disclosures with "TAM GBY" which supposedly stood for "Thanks A Million, God Bless You".

Well they're basically legitimately stealing your money because they tell you that you will receive your magazines in 6-8 weeks, but if you don't receive them within 120 days then it's free (well it better be since I'm not receiving anything!). The receipt states "NO VERBAL AGREEMENTS RECOGNIZED." So when they tell you they're free after 120 days, you have that nowhere in writing! That's a verbal agreement!

It also states "NO REFUNDS AFTER THE CANCELLATION PERIOD EXPIRES." The cancellation period is "THREE BUSINESS DAYS FORM THE SALES DATE." Well, if you're expecting to receive your magazines in 6-8 weeks, then you're probably not going to cancel the transaction within 3 business days, right? So your check clears, you never receive any magazines, and you don't get your money back.

ALSO - I spoke with 3 different people that fell for this and they ALL told me that the girls (or boys, in one case) asked to use the bathroom and were in there for a very long time. This was also the case in our situation, but nothing was missing, so I don't have any idea what they were doing in there, but that was suspicious also!

At any rate, after the second time, my husband was very skeptical and we hopped right online and found all the other reports on this website. Also looked at their website (www.pccsonline.com) and it is almost non-functional. Dead give away. I went right to my bank website and placed a stop payment on my check, so luckily I wasn't out anything, but I know others were! Beware!!!
