Scam... Promise support of Military Troops deployed

I knew better! I really did, but they got me again!!! This time they used the military as a differenciating factor. Last year, two girls came to my door selling magazines for a contest. They needed just 250 more points or 2 magazines to be purchased so they could win a trip to Europe. I fell for it. Wrote a check for $80 something dollars. They told me my check wouldn't be cashed for 14 days and I can cancel at any time. They said my magazines would be sent within 2 weeks. I was excited. My check was cashed a few days later. Magazines never came, so I tried to call the number on the receipt they gave me and it never worked. I looked up the company and could only find bad reviews. I vowed to never fall for anything like that again. I'm a single parent and I work hard for my money, but I sincerely thought I was helping the girls.
Tonight, two boys came to my door. They said they weren't selling magazines but that they were there to support the military troops deployed and my contributions would send magazine subscriptions over to them. I told them, this sounds familiar and asked them out the girls. They had all these reasons why they were different and not affiliated with that company. I asked how will I know the troops will get the magazines... Things I thought were smarter questions. They had quick answers. I told them I was still leary and wasnt sure I trust this. They said that they would give me the phone number and website. They wrote it on my receipt that they didn't give me until after they had my check. After I gave them the check I didn't feel good. I read the fine print and on there it says they aren't affilitated with the military. I distinctly remember the boy saying he was joining the Air Force and was even curious about my military affiliations. It also says to allow 150 to receive the magazines! 4 months!!! I feel foolish. I looked for them so I can ask them for my check back but of course they were gone. I need to learn to say No and trust my gut. But in the mean time, I am going to cancel my check first thing in the morning and change my account number.
If anyone else has this issue or is seeking legal action, I would be more than happy to give my account and would even participate in a class action lawsuit.
I wonder... This company went by a different name but I think the receipts are the same, they just add more features, boxes and such. How can we get these people? On the back it says a $20 fee will be charged if the check is returned for any reason? Does that mean they gain access to your account since they have acct numbers and routing numbers? That is fraud!!! I'd rather pay my bank $35 to cancel the check than to give one red cent to those bastards! Its unfortunate because from now on, anyone who comes to my door will get a resounding F/Off!
