Refusing to pay insurance Every

Miscellaneous

I purchased a package from someone through an internet website. After a few days, he recieved the package that he had sent me back from the post office. He was advised that the package had been opened and all the contents had been removed. This happened somewhere from the time he mailed it until it arrived in Seattle, about 50 miles from me. The theft of the contents clearly happened while the package was in the custody of the USPS. There is no doubt about that.

At first, this didnt seem like that big of a deal. The package was insured for almost $600, and extra money was paid for that insurance. Also, the USPS doesnt dispute that the theft of the contents happened while they had the package. So an insurance claim was filed and the USPS only paid $20 insurance on this package, when the entire cost to mail & insure the package was more than $20. So they let me merchandise get stolen and they are trying to pay an amount that doesnt even fully refund the cost to mail the package??? That is outrageous. The contents were worth several hundred dollars and that is the reason money was paid for extra insurance. The USPS says it is up to us (me or the sender) to PROVE the value of the contents. This is impossible for us to do when one of their employees stole the contents. What is the point of paying extra money to insure a package for a certain amount, if that isnt what you recieve when their employees steal your merchandise?
