Insurance is a scam, don't bother getting it

I mailed some antique vases to myself from NY to Las Vegas. I purchased $500 insurance which cost me $53.00. When I got to Las Vegas and opened the box, all the items were broken. I filed a claim with the PO. They inspected my package and gave me a copy of the PS form 1000 where they marked off that they inspected the package and all the contents and that there was visable damage and all contents were damaged. They filed my claim and within a month I got a letter back denying my claim due to "lack of evidence". I appealed by mailing in copying of my ticket and PS form 1000 where they clearly marked that the box was inspected and damaged. Again it was denied and I had to appeal to the consumer advocate in DC. They also denied my claim stating that the items were never brought in for inspection, only the box. Even though I have a letter signed by PO personnel that states differently. I have written proof that the items were inspectedand it was signed by a PO employee but they denied that this was true. It's clear that the USPS has no intentions of honoring insurance and it is a complete rip off to even waste money on it. Next time I will let UPS or Fed Ex handle my mail. They will wrap it and they also guarantee their insurance. The USPS is rude and uncaring. They don'tknow the meaning of customer service. They are a waste of tax payer dollars.
