I paid $895.00 for the privilege of cancelling all my credit cards and shutting down my bank account: (

Credit First contacted me by phone (my cell phone) with an offer to lower my credit card interest rates by $3000 - for a one time payment of $895.00 IF they were able to produce that figure. If they couldn't save me that much I was to pay nothing! Sounds okay, doesn't it?

I was sent a very professional printed folder with paperwork in it requiring all kinds of personal, and financial information. And I like a dummy, gave them everything they asked for - I could kick my own pants! Social security numbers, bank accounts, credit card numbers (with security codes - yes, they asked). And then I sent it via their provided FedEx envelope to their office in Florida - far, far, away.

Today I discovered that they have disconnected their phone number, their website doesn't exist, and they billed my credit card on Feb. 25, long before they even got my paperwork on Mar. 5 (I tracked it with FedEx:)). But I am now living in a very uncertain world; with the information I (LIKE AN IDIOT) gave them, they could open bank accounts in my name, get credit cards in my name, and totally destroy my identity.

The credit card companies and bank have been very helpful and understanding of my plight - I began canceling everything I could think of the minute I realized I had been had. One company told me that someone had already made an attempt to change my home address in their records. All I can do is pray that the good Lord will protect any and all who are going through this kind of a deal and hope that everything I can think of to stop these theives will be enough.
