HSBC Bank Nevada, N.A
Important Changes To Your Cardholder Agreement And Disclosure Statement

Business & Finance

This is the third time over the past two (?) years I have recieved similar letters from HSBC Bank Nevada, N.A.
Normally I simply threw away the letters because I knew I did not have an account with them since I only have one credit card and no 'store' credit cards or accounts.
This time I called the 800 number and spoke to someone, who was very polite and with a very strong accent, who kept asking for a credit card number or my social security number.

When I initially refused to give that information and instead gave the name and address listed on their letter he attempted to look up my account but myseriously could not find it. At that point he continued to insist that he needed my social security number to locate my account records.

I explained to him that we are often reminded in the U.S. To never give anyone our social security numbers because they could be used to open credit accounts fraudulently in our names. He said very politely that he understood that but he could not locate my account information without it. I then told him that I had recieved these letters before and that since I knew I had no open accounts that could be tied to HSBC that I believed he was running a scam operation. He was still very polite and then I hung up.
