Charged $169 for Sister-in-Law's Bill and $300 Deposit Withheld

DirecTV took my $300 deposit out of my account and then billed me $169 for my sister-in-law's account. The explanation was that she had set up service at a certain house, and I had once received junk mail there, so I was supposedly tied to that address automatically. I grew up in that house, but I left at age 15, which was more than 15 years ago, and I am 32 now.

As I understand it, they looked through public records to see who had lived at the address, and since some mail had come to me there long ago, they attached me to her account without telling me. After all, who does not still get old mail at their mother's house? When I signed up, they told me I qualified. I took a day off work for the installation, and on that very day they called to say nothing could be installed until either my sister-in-law or I paid her bill. Is that not a ripoff? They also refused to return my $300 deposit and told me to call my bank and dispute the charges.

I will never recommend DirecTV to anyone. The funniest part is that in the ten years she has been with my brother, I have met or talked with my sister-in-law only twice.
