Charged for Unwanted Advertising Text Messages From Verizon on New Phone

I was offered a new cell phone because I was under a 2 year contract. It came with new features such as text capacity and camera. I do not use text messages, etc.

However, I am being charged for advertising from Verizon itself which shows up in my text message box and showing up on my billing for the cell phone as data received.

I do not think I should be charged extra for text messages used as advertising for the company who sold the phone service.
